DAY 1 - Expressive Figures

"Rendering the human figure is both vulnerable and intrinsically beautiful. You will learn to paint the movements of the body and explore expressive intentions and emotions through each mark of colour".

- Complete 1 figurative painting (18x24" canvas supplied)

- Acrylic paint is ONLY medium however you can then continue with any medium after the workshop

- We will not be striving for realism, but focussing on the expressive quality of painting the figure

- Elements of composition

- Using a grid to establish proportion

- Defining the body through shadow and light

- Highlighting the stylistic differences each artist brings to their own painting

DAY 2 - Simplified Portrait

" "I can paint faces!!" These were the exact words that escaped in excitement when I finished my first portrait. I designed this workshop for all levels from the very beginner to the practiced artist. Although we will work together in establishing some basic portrait basics, we will not draw a single line! We will be painters, enjoying the art of the painted portrait without measuring and technical mumbo jumbo that only confuses the joy of painting".

 - Complete 2 simplified portraits (One 9x12" canvas is supplied per student, 2nd available to purchase on day)

- We will work from the same image provided for the first piece and then an individualised image (students choice) for second piece

 - Acrylic paint will be used for the workshops however you can then continue with any medium once home

 - We will not be striving for realism, but focussing on the expressive quality of portraiture

- We will explore paint colours, skin tones and colour mixing

 - Elements of the face and how they apply to facial expressions

- Using a grid to establish proportion

 - Defining the body through shadow and light

 - Highlighting the stylistic differences each artist brings to their own painting

DAY 3 - Student Workshop Day

Day 3 is a relaxed day for all students who have joined us for BOTH workshops to come together and practice what they have just learned from Donna, bounce off each other and complete some more artwork before we all have to return to reality! And you never know who may pop in!! The room will be available from 10am - 5pm and you can come and go as you please. No catering is included on this day.

The room for the workshops will be ours for the full 3 days. You will be able to leave your workspace as is at the end of day 1&2 as long as we all leave the room clean and tidy.

However, if you are unable to come you will need to sell your ticket to someone else and have paid Mrs Red's your full amount before workshop date.

We need to pay the artists upfront so I need to be very clear about this.
