Class Information
If you are booking online, please note that this class is for BANORA POINT, run on the 1st and 3rd Wednesdays of the month. Venue is the Banora Point Community Centre, Cnr Leisure Drv and Woodlands Drv, Banora Point NSW 2486.
If you are new to this class, I will email you everything you need to bring along to class once you have made your purchase. Bookings at this stage are not essential but are always advised due to print outs handed out in each class.
This class has kindly been subsidised through the Fun Activities Banora Seniors (FABS) group. In return, you need to sign in when you arrive to class so that I can give this attendance form to the FABS office. You do not have to be a Senior to join this class.

What is Sketchbook Satchel?
This class is open to all ages and is also both for current hobby artists wanting to sharpen their pencils or for those paying attention to their mental health. Your drawing experience can be minimal or professional level. By drawing, you are improving your skills and we all have our own unique style so let it out!
By drawing and painting in a sketchbook, you feel less afraid of making mistakes. Sketchbooks are to experiment in, make mistakes and try different styles. Let that inner child out and just enjoy drawing, painting and mark making.
There is no 'right' sketchbook either. A spiral cartridge paper sketchbook is a great basic however if you want to use watercolour, gouache and ink you will need to use a mixed media sketchbook. There are plenty around and Mrs Red also stocks a few in her online art shop. These can be ordered and collected in class, providing stock is available.

Art Supplies You'll Need
At the very least you will want an A5 or A4 cartridge paper sketchbook. These are available everywhere, just try and get one that is 110gsm paper weight or over.
There are many different types of sketchbooks available and if you love a sketchbook like I do, you will end up with at least 10 different ones! I have mixed media, watercolour, kraft paper, cappuccino coloured, grey paper books and then there are the sizes! Mine all come in a range of square, portrait and landscape.
Then you need graphite pencils. Quality graphite pencils are a must and they do not cost much. You will want a HB, 2B and 4B minimum.
Mrs Red's favourites are the Staedtler Mars Lumograph. They feel like drawing with butter, they are so creamy and smooth! You can purchase them from the online shop and collect them in class. Oh and grab a pencil sharpener and eraser as well.
A couple of waterproof and fade proof drawing pens are also part of the basic list. In Mrs Red's online shop you will find the UniPin Fine Liners in a large range of weights. A 1.0 and a 3.0 is a great start.
There are no rules as to what you can and cannot use in a sketchbook. Listed above is the minimum to join Sketchbook Satchel classes. Other art supplies you may have or want to purchase along the way would be coloured pencils, Pan Pastels, Tombow dual marker pens, watercolours, gouache and the list goes on. You will get a feel for what you use and want to use. Gather as you go.
