Pointillism (also called Stippling) is producing a drawing by applying small dots to a surface so that from a distance they visually blend together. Nowdays most pointillsim is done with a fine black drawing pen but can also be done with paint and a round brush. It was pioneered by Georges Seurat and Paul Signac in Paris in the mid-1880s, both painters.
